The texts collected here grew out of the opening part of Nimaš Izbire x MEMPOP: Ljubljanacore, a collaborative event that brought together MEMPOP, a cultural studies conference dedicated to popular culture, and Nimaš Izbire, a Ljubljana-based collective working at the intersection of DIY culture, adventurous electronic music, alternative scenes, and independent creative communities.
Before the concerts and DJ sets took over the night at Channel Zero on Friday, 24th of April 2026, students of Cultural Studies presented their own theoretically informed yet playful interpretations of selected music videos. Their contributions treated the music video as a dense cultural object: a space where sound, image, performance, affect, memory, and social imagination meet.

Written by Gaia Merlak Gnamuš, Ema Levec, and Špela Pečjak, the following pieces continue that conversation in textual form. They approach music videos as small but revealing archives of contemporary popular culture—attentive to style, atmosphere, bodies, and spaces. These texts are also invitations: to watch more closely, to listen differently, and to take seriously the cultural work that often passes us by too quickly.
